It sounds to me like you may have a problem with some mod that only manifests itself when JourneyMap is running, they might be willing to help out if you're careful and don't trash talk.
Just because JourneyMap appears to lag doesn't automatically mean it is the cause of lag, other more serious causes of lag may be hidden in what your other mods are attempting to do at the same time as JourneyMap is running. If you want to try diagnosing whether your issue really lies with JourneyMap, I suggest opening up the web chat here on the FTB forums and joining #JourneyMap and politely asking Techbrew, the author of JourneyMap, if he can help you with your mapping problems. I have another issues with the JM: (not that serious as above) I don't know what happened, but after today update something broke and it's still broken after reverting back to older version. With disabled mapping I could walk atleast two minutes straight without any lag. I've been literally walking in circles in one chunk and counting the time between lags. However, it may / seems to be related to mapping because after disabling it, there is no more lag. And I forgot to backup the map, so good job me.
Deleting configs and color palette didn't nothing either. Reverted EnderIO and Endercore to older version, still persist. Reverted Forge from 1558 to 1448, still persist. Now it still persist after going back from older version. I had this issue about month/two ago when I updated JM from 5.1.1b8 to 5.1.1rc1 but it disappeared after I reverted back to b8. Games lags / stutters for ~1 second every 40~50 seconds. And quite soon after I got into map I started to having issues.
